The APPM holds various educational and training events 

Our main event is the annual two day conference for general paediatricians, trainees, children’s and adults’ hospice doctors, specialists in paediatric and adult palliative medicine, nurses and allied health professionals working in paediatric palliative care. 
 
This event is open to APPM members and non-members alike. 

APPM CONFERENCE 2024  Signs, symptoms, solutions 21 & 22 November 2024 at 30 Euston Square, London NW1 2FB  The APPM Conference 2024 will take place on 21 and 22 November 2024 at 30 Euston Square, London, NW1 2FB – a delightful venue which is close to many mainline stations.  The Conference this year is over two full days with Day 1 being devoted to Research with a plethora of speakers from all aspects of research in paediatric palliative care. Day 2 will concentrate on clinical matters and we are delighted to confirm that Dr Andrew Dickman, Consultant Pharmacist for Palliative Care at the Academic Palliative and End of Life Care Centre, Royal Liverpool University Hospital and author of the book “Drugs in Palliative Care” will be speaking. Dr Isabel Paz, Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Oxford Psychological Medicine Centre and Dr Kate Green, Paediatric Clinical Psychologist, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust will discuss mental health in children with palliative care needs and we will be confirming speakers on long term ventilation and liver disease in palliative care.  In the evening of Thursday 21 November, there will be an opportunity to meet your colleagues in a more social capacity. This will be at the same venue and food will be available (three canapés and three bowls per person) with one complimentary drink. The evening reception is an additional cost of £40 on your conference registration fee.  There is some overnight accommodation at 30 Euston Square – the cost is £180 (single occupancy) and £190 (double occupancy) which includes a continental breakfast and VAT. There are other hotels in the vicinity. APPM Nurses' Networking & Education Day - Thursday 9 May 2024 at Birmingham Women's & Children's Hospital  
WE ARE AWARE OF THE TRAIN DISRUPTION BUT ARE GOING AHEAD WITH THIS EVENT 
 
The APPM are delighted to be able to invite nurses to join them at a Networking & Education Day at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Birmingham on Thursday 9 May 2024. 
The topics to be covered include: 
• A discussion around “How do we as nurses change the narrative of paediatric palliative medicine for the 
future?”. This will be led by members of the HEARD organisation. 
• An update from Together for Short Lives on their work around definitions of paediatric palliative care 
and a look at the wider picture nationally. 
• A reflection on ethics in paediatric palliative care led by a Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine and 
Chair of a Clinical Advisory Group 
• Two workshops to choose out of three on workforce challenges and innovations, a clinical topic and 
nurse verification of death and the role of the Medical Examiner. 
 
There will be plenty of time to network with your peers. The day is open to both APPM and non-APPM members.
